One of Australia’s leading steel tube and pipe manufacturers, Orrcon Steel, has recently completed a major project as part of the continued development of the Inner City Busway in Brisbane.
Built with over 400 tonnes of steel pipe (CHS), Orrcon Steel rolled the larger diameter sizes up to a staggering 23 metres in length at its world class pipe and tube mill in Wollongong and smaller sizes at its structural mills in Brisbane.
The task that faced Orrcon Steel was not only to supply the CHS to build an arched structure across a sunken roadway through the Victoria Park Golf Course but to supply in a time frame to disturb the golfers at little as possible.
Orrcon Steel National Manager, Major Projects Group, Mr Bob Creek said, the busway passed through an urban tunnel before entering the golf course, where a sunken roadway was constructed.
“We had the task of providing a structure across the roadway - and ensuring that passing traffic was safe from wayward golf balls.
“It was quite a task, and I’m sure the golfers were pleased when the project was completed."
